The A-segment - The minicars

This segment is literally one of the smallest. Most Norwegians do not buy tiny minicars.

The B-segment - The small cars

If we go a little up in size, we come to the B-segment.

The C-segment - The compact cars

From the BMW i3 at three meters, we are moving a little up in size. The C-segment has so long been dominated by one model, that it has also been called the Golf class.

D-segment - The middle class

We have now moved to a class that has traditionally been well suited for Norwegian families with children. There are few who buy the middle-class cars as short sedans, but on the other hand as station wagons. Then they naturally become even bigger, compared to the cars in the segments below.

The E- and F-segment - The big and luxurious cars

The big cars in the E-segment and the luxurious ones in the F-segment often go hand in hand. For all these cars cost money - often up to a million and far more.

The M-segment - The multi-purpose cars

Here we are talking about the cars the Americans call "soccer mom cars". Some also call them MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) - ie multi-purpose car. The cars are built as a kind of mix between minibus and overgrown station wagon. Then there will be plenty of space, many seats and easy entry and exit.

The P-segment - The Pickups

Pickups or trucks, sell as hot donuts in the United States. This is not the case in Norway - at least not as passenger cars.

Most Norwegians who buy pickups registered these with green signs - ie as vans. Then they have no back seats either. Then the pickups are sorted together with traditional square vans and SUVs, which have room for the so-called treasury. On vans, it is the case that there must be a fixed partition behind the seats. And the cargo space or plane must be able to accommodate a right-angled box - 140 centimeters in length, 90 centimeters in width and 105 centimeters in height.

The S-segment - the SUVs

SUV stands for "Sport utility vehicle" in English, or "sports and utility vehicle" in our language. Despite the fact that the SUVs come in several different sizes, they are most often sorted in the same segment. Sometimes, however, the segmentation B-SUV or crossover is used about the smaller SUVs, which in the lower version could almost have been classified under the B-segment.

The X-segment - The sports cars

In the segment with the most X-factor, we find the sports cars. In this segment, speed and driving comfort are at the forefront. In the back seat we find almost nothing - for them there is no room in a proper sports car.
