The curing process

The seals are dust dry after 2-5 hours. The build-up time is 4-5 days, depending on environmental conditions such as humidity and temperature. Only after approx. After 14 days, the seal has hardened and has reached complete hardness (see Technical Data Sheet ). The long curing time is due to a process called hydrolysis, which means that the seal cures using heat and moisture in the air. The process can be accelerated considerably by using an IR dryer or heated room / garage.

During this time, the following should be avoided:

  • Water! Onyx Coating will protect the paint on the car from "water spots", but it can get stains during the curing process. Avoid rain, washing and exposure to water during the curing period. If this can not be avoided, it is extremely important to wipe the seal as soon as possible with a microfiber towel so that water stains do not occur.

  • Parking under trees.

  • That bird droppings, sap or pollen remain on the car (especially on sunny days).

Washing or scrubbing the paint

If you notice that your car gets water stains, bird droppings, pollen or the like during the first two to three weeks, you must remove it immediately by following our Application Instructions . Remember that sealing is soft (during the curing process); be careful when working with it.

Wash the car at home

Onyx is extremely smooth, this means that most things will loosen and bounce off using the self-cleansing effect. To ensure long life, rubbing (especially with a dry towel) on the seal should be avoided. Dried bird droppings, insects and sap can be dissolved using solvents based on alcohols (isopropanol, ethanol, etc.) and wiped off with a damp microfiber towel.

Wash

  1. For best results, the car should be washed weekly. Use only mild soaps.

  2. Use the 2-bucket method to wash the car.

  3. Avoid brush washing, high volume brush type and high pH cleaners.

  4. Avoid washing in direct sunlight to minimize watermarks and water stains.

  5. Wash from top to bottom, and let the dirtiest parts be washed last to avoid cross-contamination.

  6. Use separate soap and sponge / wash glove / towel to prevent cross-contamination.

Washing methods

Standard home wash

  1. Use a foam gun (optimal) or microfiber wash to soap the car.

  2. Rinse with a high pressure washer (optimal) or garden hose.

  3. Wipe with clean microfiber towels.

Self-washing

  1. Choose high-pressure soap.

  2. Soap the car (NEVER use the brushes provided, especially on the seal!).

  3. Rinse the car with a high-pressure cleaner.

  4. Wipe with clean microfiber towels.

Car wash

  1. Non-contact / brushless car wash.

  2. NEVER use a car wash with brushes!

  3. NEVER select the "wax" option.

Drying

  1. Always dry completely and do not allow to air dry. Tap water can contain minerals that can leave traces and create water stains. These can be removed with a 50/50 water and vinegar solution or use "Water Spot Remover".

  2. Use only the highest quality microfiber towels for best results and avoid aggressive drying so that the material absorbs the water.

Stain removal

  1. Never use aggressive products to polish the seal or remove surface contamination.

  2. Never use excessive force to remove stains.

  3. Bird droppings, water stains, pollen, etc. should be removed as soon as possible to avoid temporary stains or drying on the seal. Any stains left over from bird droppings will break down in a few days without affecting the seal.

After washing

  • Do not wax the seal! It is unnecessary and wax will not bind to the surface.

  • Onyx Care is the recommended maintenance product. Ask your local dealer for Onyx Care or purchase through our online store .

Automatic washing

Always use a non-contact / brushless wash! If you use an automatic car wash with brushes, the warranty will be void and the seal will wear out. Onyx 9H and 10H take up to 2-3 weeks to achieve full hardness / hardening. Be careful not to wash the vehicle for the first 2-3 weeks.

Leather and textile maintenance program

  1. For best results, all leather / vinyl surfaces should be cleaned weekly with a leather preservative to avoid contamination and replenish the natural oils.

  2. Vacuum carpets regularly and use towel and textile cleaners when necessary.

  3. Immediately wipe up spills on leather, vinyl or textile.

Annual inspection

Annual inspection is required to ensure that the seal is maintained and that maintenance of the vehicle is performed properly. The control wash must be performed by an approved applicator within 30 days before 1 year has elapsed since the treatment. The control wash will ensure top performance. This is also a requirement to ensure the warranty. See our Warranty Terms .

Although the treatment is very durable, annual inspection and inspection will ensure maximum shine and protection.
